Aransas County

On August 25, 2017, Harvey's eye came ashore right here. Not near here — here. Rockport and Fulton took the worst of a Category 4 hurricane, and almost every roof in the county came off or came apart.
What followed was the biggest roofing rush this stretch of coast has ever seen. Crews came in from all over the country. Material was short. Everybody was working fast because everybody needed a roof at once.
Most of that work was fine. Some of it wasn't. And those roofs are now eight and nine years old.
Protex Roofing works Aransas County out of our shop in Flour Bluff. We're firefighter-owned, we were here for Harvey, and we're still here.
If Your Roof Went On After Harvey, It's Worth a Look
Two things tend to turn up on rebuild-era roofs.
The first is ordinary wear that arrived early. A roof installed in a hurry, in a material shortage, doesn't always get the details right — flashing, edge metal, fastener placement. Those shortcuts don't leak in year two. They leak around year eight.
The second is the paperwork. In the rush after the storm, plenty of roofs went on without a TDI inspection ever being scheduled, or with a certificate that was never actually issued. The homeowner has no idea anything is missing. They find out when they file a claim on the next storm and their carrier asks for a WPI-8 they don't have.
If you don't know whether your post-Harvey roof was certified, that's worth resolving now, while it's a phone call instead of a denied claim.
We'll check the roof and help you figure out where the documentation stands. No charge for looking.
Aransas County Wind Requirements
The entire county sits inside the TDI designated catastrophe area, and most of it — Rockport, Fulton, Lamar, Holiday Beach, Copano Village, Estes, Aransas Pass — falls in the same wind zone, with the barrier island side stricter still.
What that means practically: a roof here has to be built and documented to a standard, and an inspector has to sign off before a certificate exists. We handle that as part of the job rather than leaving you to chase it afterward.
Own Property Here But Don't Live Here?
A lot of Rockport-Fulton is second homes, weekend places and vacation rentals. If you're in San Antonio or Austin or Houston most of the year, you've got no real idea what your roof looks like right now.
You don't need to drive down for us to check it. We'll inspect it, photograph everything, and email you a report you can actually read — condition, any damage we found, and whether it needs anything. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too.
Property managers: we're happy to work with you across multiple units.

Canal and Bayfront Homes
Key Allegro, the Fulton waterfront and the properties along Copano and St. Charles bays sit in open, unbroken wind. There's nothing upwind to slow it down.
Roofs in that exposure almost never fail in the middle. They start at an edge — a rake, an eave, a corner — where uplift is highest and where a marginal fastening job shows up first. That's the part we pay attention to, and it's the part a crew from out of state tends not to.
